The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from Joe Hill.  He was a member of the Industrial Workers of the World and was heavily involved in organizing workers.   He was convicted of murder and in 1915 was executed by firing squad.  This case was and still is very controversial.  President Woodrow Wilson (who could not pardon Hill because murder is a state charge), the blind and deaf author Helen Keller along with people from every walk of life became involved in a bid for clemency.

This is his Will:
My will is easy to decide
For there is nothing to divide
My kin don't need to fuss and moan
"Moss does not cling to a rolling stone."
My body? - Oh. - If I could choose
I would to ashes it reduce
And let the merry breezes blow
My dust to where some flowers grow
Perhaps some fading flower then
Would come to life and bloom again
This is my Last and final Will
Good Luck to All of you
Joe Hill
Many folk songs have been written about Joe Hill.  My personal favorite was by Joan Baez at Woodstock.  Here is that video
