The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from James Madison, Founding Father, author of the Bill of Rights and 4th President of the United States:
If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
I think Mr. Madison knew a thing or two about democracy and the constant threats to it.  This quote is obviously extremely relevant today.  The "War on Terror" has challenged, and some would say, erased some of our basic rights and liberties.  Warrantless wiretaps, Bush claiming the Executive was the most powerful of the three branches of government, torture, etc.  The citizenry has to be constantly vigil against such abuses.  Again, if the people do not guard against such actions, who will?

If the Executive Branch is unwilling to take on Tyranny and Oppression, wouldn't it be great to think that the Legislative or Judicial Branches would jump right in and step up for us.
