Arlen Specter Seems to be Daring His New Party to Primary Him
Pennsylvania's newest Democrat sure knows how to kill any afterglow from his big announcement last week. Of course I immediately wrote he is not a Democrat anyway and people should not be excited about his decision. Specter wants to prove me right beyond a shadow of a doubt I guess. Today Specter said that he wants Republican Norm Coleman to win his quixotic quest to remain Minnesota's Senator.
That right there is more than enough reason for the Democratic Senate leadership to throw Specter no support in any 2010 Democratic Primary challenge. But this was only the latest statement by Specter that throws his supposed new party under the bus. Here is a sampling of two recent quotes:

-My change in party affiliation does not mean that I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats that I have been for the Republicans ... For example, my position on Employees Free Choice (Card Check) will not change.Uh, so why should Democrats be loyal to you Arlen. Since his reasoning to make the switch was purely because Specter was going to get annihilated in the GOP primary, his statements are not very wise (to say the least). What makes Specter think there will not be a challenger from the blue side of the aisle. There are rumors that this is already shaping up. Let's hope it happens. And if Specter is surprised by any challenge he is even more of an idiot than I thought. Like I said, he is practically daring someone to do it.
-I did not say I would be a loyal Democrat. I did not say that.
