The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from Woody Guthrie. This was written in the late 1930s on a songbook distributed to listeners of his L.A. radio show "Woody and Lefty Lou" who wanted the words to his recordings:
This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright #154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do.Although not a purely political quote, the principles contained in it are easily applicable. In fact, they are easily applicable to all of our lives. In a modern world where capitalism, materialism and commercialism ruthlessly dominate our lives, Woody shows us that it does not have to be that way. Making the almighty dollar does not have to be the goal for every single thing we set out to do. Imagine if the suits in Washington even came close to this way of thinking. I'm willing to bet a lot of money the world would look very different...

It sounds like just having someone listen to and enjoy his music was Woody's payment.
