The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from Voltaire.  A French Enlightenment writer and philosopher, he was enormously influential on our American Founding Fathers:
Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to to make you commit injustices.
Another warning from the pages of history.  People can not just blindly accept what is told to them.  We have to prod and question authority for their justifications.  It is not an easy task, but if true democracy that holds justice above all is ever possible we must do it.  Too often authority encloses itself and looses touch with the populace's true needs.  When this happens, and we remain silent, absurdities surely will become injustices.
