The Political Point of the Day

Today's selection comes from Susan B. Anthony:
It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.
It is sometimes easy to forget that women did not get the right to vote until 1920, with the passage of the 19th Amendment.  Throughout her life Susan B. Anthony was a true trailblazer.  She fought for civil rights, liberties and equality tirelessly.  I think the story of her arrest in 1872 sums up what she was all about.  She was arrested by a US Marshal for illegally voting and the case went to trial.  Her argument was that Privileges and Immunities Clause of the 14th Amendment does not contain the words "only males."  She lost this argument and was ordered to pay a fine.  She never paid the fine for the rest of her life.
