Dick Cheney is Scared

Dick Cheney made yet another public statement today about how torture is great and how he personally made decisions that kept us all alive.  If you can stomach it, here is the entire speech.  I want to focus on one part specifically:

Over on the left wing of the president’s party, there appears to be little curiosity in finding out what was learned from the terrorists. The kind of answers they’re after would be heard before a so-called “Truth Commission.” Some are even demanding that those who recommended and approved the interrogations be prosecuted, in effect treating political disagreements as a punishable offense, and political opponents as criminals. It’s hard to imagine a worse precedent, filled with more possibilities for trouble and abuse, than to have an incoming administration criminalize the policy decisions of its predecessors.

Apart from doing a serious injustice to intelligence operators and lawyers who deserve far better for their devoted service, the danger here is a loss of focus on national security, and what it requires. I would advise the administration to think very carefully about the course ahead. All the zeal that has been directed at interrogations is utterly misplaced. And staying on that path will only lead our government further away from its duty to protect the American people.

Dick Cheney is scared.  He saw his top lackey, Scooter Libby, get convicted by a Federal jury.  Only that time Bush was around to commute Libby's sentence.  This time there is no one around to pardon him or commute his sentence.  If convicted he would be sent up the river with no one to help him.

That is why the more I see Cheney running around the country giving these types of speeches I believe he is on the offensive to stave off any prosecutions.  The more he makes these claims publicly the more the traditional media lap it up and plaster them all over their screens and pages.  He is muddying the water and trying to confuse the issue.

Well, there is no confusing the fact that torture is a war crime.  Period.  Cheney should be handed an Indictment today.  Unfortunately, I fear that the more Cheney growls about this the more the spineless Democrats will start to get nervous about taking official action.  How did we end up in this place anyway?  War criminals giving speeches that air carried on all the major networks, what a time we live in.

'What a time we live in' indeed. We have gone from Murrow and Cronkite standing up and giving US the dirty Truth,to a MSM circle jerk.I don't recognise my country anymore. This place reminds Me of 19th century America with modern telecommunications. The men and women who fought for labor rights in the 30's must view US with contempt. The men and women who fought against Fascism in the 40's must cry over the one's lost because We didn't learn. I worry about the world my grandaughter will inherit. When she comes to Me and says 'What was wrong with You?',I will only answer,'I tried.'
