Today's selections comes from King Louis XIV of France:

-I am the state.  -It is legal because I wish it.  -Has God forgotten all I have done for Him.

Louis XIV reigned at the height of the "Divine Right of Kings" era.  He was known as the Sun King, a symbol of his absolute power and rule.  I put these quotes up to show just how arrogant, self-important and tyrannical he and the entire aristocratic hierarchy was.  Most of our ancestors lived under petty kings and the like.  Their struggles and hardships eventually lead to our rights and liberties.  I am sure glad we do not have to live in those circumstances.
