The Nation And Conservatives In The Age Of Obama: Round 1

President Obama has nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace the retiring Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court.  Judge Sotomayor has had extensive experience on many levels of the judicial ladder, in fact, President Obama stated that she  "'has worked at almost every level of our judicial system, providing her with a depth of experience and a breadth of perspective that will be invaluable as a Supreme Court justice.'"

If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the third woman to serve on the Court and the first Hispanic Justice.  However, conservative groups have called her service into question, claiming:  "'Judge Sotomayor is a liberal judicial activist of the first order who thinks her own personal political agenda is more important that the law as written,'" said Wendy Long, counsel to the conservative Judicial Confirmation Network.

Step aboard the Name-Calling-Carousel!  Apparently, every move made by a Democrat has to be interpreted as an ad hominem criticism of the individual; disdaining anything and everything they do.  If that is the case, would bathing and brushing your teeth be considered "liberal, socialist, and Communistic" because Democrats do it?  Also, doesn't the name "Judicial Confirmation Network" sound a bit contrived?  There's a club for this kind of thing?  And not just a club, but a more official-sounding title of "network!"  It's nice to see adults still use their imagination to play pretend.  Besides, it's not as if a Supreme Court Justice gets nominated every year, so why the elevated title, Judicial Confirmation Network?  This organization is about as active as the cicada (and, hopefully, just as short-lived).

OK, I'm off the ride, now.

Judge Sotomayor grew up in a housing project in the Bronx, New York, and attended Princeton University (remember the President of that University? Woodrow Wilson?  A pretty conservative fellow), then attended Yale Law School (a bastion of conservative thought?).  She was appointed to Federal Service by George H. W. Bush (still conservative) before being appointed to her current position by Bill Clinton (now, he was not a conservative).  So, people will criticize this person because of her connection with poverty and "the Liberal Establishment of Clinton" when in fact, she achieved her position through ability and persistence, the way of the "Rugged Individualist" vis-a-vis the 1920s Republican perception.

Let's hope that the Republican senators watch their mouth and keep the racist, elitist, homophobic, xenophobic, and ignorant comments out of the public record this time.  That is, if they know how to construct sentences and thoughts without them.

Well,I'm glad Obama moved quickly on this choice,Because I am not so sanquine about a 'speedy confirmation'. Indeed,Obama has proven to be no 'Liberal' and still the Right hates Him worse than The Clintons. I expect obstruction, obsfucation, stamping of feet and general childish behavior we have come to expect from The Right. Personally,I am hoping for it and in a BIG way. Because by doing so,The Republican party will be doomed beyond redemption.I WANT them to show their 'racist, elitist, homophobic, xenophobic and ignorant' selves in front of The TV cameras daily. This isn't the mere sandbagging of a duly elected Minnisotan senator,we're talking here. This is an appointment For Life.Judge Sotomayer is my age,so she and I will grow old together. And,watch together the fading away of the Republican party forever.

Anti-abortionist's continued rhetoric towards, and harassment of Dr. George Tiller finally fell on the ears of someone willing to do there dirty work. Randall Terry and all the other anti-abortion extremist are accomplishes in Dr. Tiller's murder and should face charges as such. His blood is on there hands along with that of all the medical people killed by these terrorists. A woman's choice is a constitutional right confirmed by the Supreme Court but these people do not care about such things.
