Conservative Radio Hosts Secede From Media.

Making my way back from New York State's Hudson Valley recently, I decided to pop out a CD and listen to the wonder of AM radio.  For the next 150 miles or so, I heard conservative radio blowhards lament how the media is ruining this nation, as are the "liberals," whoever they are.  This got me thinking.  First of all, should I pull over and switch to a CD?  Then I began to consider that conservative radio hosts (or TV show hosts, or newspaper writers) may have a different opinion of who and what make up the media.  So, I have included the definition of "media" from the politically-neutral website www.dictionary.com:

media:
     2.   (usually used with a plural verb) the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and
magazines, that reach or influence people widely: "The media are covering the speech tonight. "

I listened to three noted conservatives in the field talk about this matter on their radio shows.  But I could have also read their newspaper column or watched their TV show as well.  Sounds to me like they have a hard time understanding the nature and definition of their work.  After all, if a newspaper columnist, TV and radio show host claimed they weren't part of the media, well, wouldn't you be a little confused?  What if I went into a school for a job interview, certifications and sample lesson plans in hand, and told the administrators that I wasn't a teacher, but I had views of how to make teachers better?  How long would I last in that room before I was chastised for wasting their time?

Well, according to figures released by the media -wait, I can't use that word- I would have an audience for a show.

Since the conservatives believe that they are not part of the media, the term "media" can't be applied to them, as it appears they have seceded from the mainstream.  I would like to propose the more Republican-friendly term "market platform" instead of that damned other term.

I would include pictures of the three people in question, but I don't want the readers of this site to turn their computers into dartboards or buy brand-new computers simply because a talking head from the Bloviate Army appeared on the site (although massive consumer buying sprees like that would help out the retail sector, and by extension, the economy at large).  But I will not do that.  Instead, I will tell you that these people all have TV shows on the FOX network.

Now, I am not opposed to people taking opposing viewpoints on an issue, or even to have their own opinion.  However, when the counter-point session is to take place, the host of the show begins to act like a tantruming 3-year-old.  Interruptions, name-calling, shouting down the guest, even calling the guest an "opponent."  That sounds to me like they failed out of one of those places where they train journalists and television personnel in the form of persuasive writing and argument.  What do they call those places again?

College.

Conservative market platformers almost went here.  If it weren't for that
damned "Theory of Basket-weaving 101" class, or "Cake Baking 204" they'd have a diploma.

So the conservative radio hosts, TV hosts, and newspaper columnists all claim to be separate from the media.   That's fine.  Maybe we can put them all on an island together to further their isolationist stance.  You know, since they claim to know how everything works and lament how the nation got into such bad shape because nobody listened to them (raise your hand if you like hindsight!) maybe being kept aloof from the news will prevent them from spouting opinions and commentary about the news and instead force them to make sound, research-based examinations of it.

I remember a place where I was taught to do things like that.

I could use up massive amounts of bandwidth debunking the 'librul media' nonsense, but I won't do it here. I'd just be preaching to the choir. 'Conservative' talk radio only exists to serve it's listeners. It is affirmation, not information. It is a media that mimics it's audience's desire to rail against 'them' and all 'they' stand for. They revel in the confrontation, the anger, the 'he sure showed him' heart pumping showmanship. While many in the audience may mimic the 'in your face' politics in their daily lives, most love it because they lack the education and sophistication to have the guts to express themselves in public in a similar manner. Others who do posess those traits are only too happy to have a mouthpiece, since to express such sentiments publicly would be 'inappropriate' concidering their societal standing. Right wing media is for one purpose- to foment hate, fear so the masses will be at each others throats, while corperate America rips US off blind.

Keep those comments coming, and often.  They make me want to either laugh on the floor or print them out and march on the streets collecting signatures to oust these goofballs from highly-paid, elected public service positions where the standing order of the day involves name-calling and stagnating any legislation which may help out Americans at home or abroad.
